July 27 Fitch Ratings Overview of FedEx CorporationFitch Ratings initiated coverage of FedEx and issued a press release outlining its analysis and conclusions.  The debt ratings firm gives an overview of the business operations and potential concerns worth highlighting for investors.  Among the concerns noted are the stalled contract negotiations with the ALPA pilots union, the ongoing litigation surround FedEx Ground drivers and the Teamsters.

July 19 FedEx Executives Get Two Raises in 2006The FedEx hometown paper digs deeper into the pay and bonus packages for the company’s top executives including Fred Smith.  Oddly, the headline hints that the packages were less than generous since the annual bonuses for executives in 2006 was lower from 2005.  The article introduces some context by comparing the FedEx bonus structure to other companies’ plans (hint: it is much bigger.)

July 17 Pittsburgh Paper Interviews Dan SullivanIn anticipation of FedEx Ground CEO Dan Sullivan’s retirement in January 2007, the company’s hometown paper runs an interview getting Sullivan’s views of running a business in Pittsburgh.  Sullivan repeats the FedEx company line on the independent contractor scam.  The paper fails to ask about how much FedEx Ground has avoided in Pennsylvania state taxes in its history.

July 10 FedEx Pilots Union Comments on UPS Pilots Contract AnnouncementThe FedEx pilots’ union chairman Capt. David Webb is speaking out on the impact of the UPS pilots’ announced contract offer on the stalled negotiations at FedEx.  The UPS contract offer still has to go to the full membership for ratification, but some of the terms are becoming known in the industry.  FedEx and its pilots’ union are holding bargaining talks this week.

July 05 NLRB Charges FedEx Over Illegal Labor Practices in New JerseyThe National Labor Relations Board filed charges against FedEx Ground/Home Delivery for illegal labor practices at its Barrington, NJ and West Deptford, NJ terminals.
